Lumsden McCormick Day of Caring 2022

Lumsden McCormick’s first annual Day of Caring, organized by the Making a Difference (MAD) Committee, took place October 28, 2022. Accountants and staff volunteered at the Buffalo Botanical Gardens, a local organization dedicated to inspiring and educating visitors about the natural world. The Botanical Garden is a national historic site that has served the community since its opening in 1900. Tax Partner Michē Needham currently serves as Chairwoman on the Buffalo Botanical Garden Board of Directors; she has served on the board in various capacities for over seventeen years. An in-house volunteer opportunity organized by the MAD Committee this year included making fleece blankets for Family Promise of WNY, an emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness. The mission of Family Promise is to keep families together and help them reclaim their sense of agency during a turbulent time with compassion, respect, and shared goals. They have served in this mission for twenty-five years, and anyone interested in helping them provide community care can contribute food, companionship, donations, labor, outreach, and financial support; learn more here.

On November 2, 2022, staff also were fortunate enough to have the chance to help cook dinner for the local Ronald McDonald House Charities Buffalo House. The organization is devoted to providing a safe haven to families as ill or injured children receive the medical care and resources they need. The RMHC of WNY has served the area for over thirty-five years and has touched the lives of more than 21,000 families.
