Lou is the Managing Director of Brisbane Consulting Group in charge of Business Valuations, Forensic Accounting, and Litigation Support Services. He has extensive valuation experience and has served as a financial consultant and expert to attorneys in the economic aspects of matrimonial dissolution. He has been engaged in several forensic accounting cases and has served the judiciary as a court appointed expert and receiver for financially troubled companies. Lou has testified as an expert witness in State Supreme Court and Federal Court.
He has been engaged in the quantification of lost income in determining Business Interruption Claims for insurance adjusters. He has assisted clients and adjusters in the preparation of the claim, the determination of extra expenses and inventory loss and settlement negotiations. Lou has been directly involved in numerous consulting engagements for estate and gift tax valuations, the determination of monetary damages in contract disputes, dissenting shareholder actions and consulting engagements related to buy sell agreements.
He has extensive speaking experience on Business Valuation issues before matrimonial attorneys, estate attorneys, and judges in several counties across New York State. He frequently lectures to many New York State Bar Associations and is recognized by the governing body of the Buffalo Chartered Life Underwriters as an expert qualified to provide continuing education credits for all its members. Mr. Cercone was appointed by the Fourth Judicial Department and sits on the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Eighth Judicial District. He also is a member of the Non-Lawyer Professional Sub-Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Family Law Section Executive Committee.
Lou is a member of and has received the following professional designations: CPA-Certified Public Accountant: New York State; ABV-Accredited in Business Valuations: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; ASA-Accredited Senior Appraiser: American Society of Appraisers; CVA-Certified Valuation Analyst: National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts; and CFE-Certified Fraud Examiner: Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Lou’s community involvement includes volunteering with Catholic Charities of Buffalo and St. Amelia’s Church; and as a board member with Cardinal O’Hara High School. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Daemen College.
